How do you load a meter token to a prepaid electricity meter? It's easy. All you need to do is press in the numbers and dial enter after you've finished. I've done it several times and it's easy to do.

How to really do it:
================
1. Read through the numbers first
2. Use the butt of a pen or your finger to enter the token/numbers by pressing on the buttons.
3. After entering the numbers, press the enter button and wait for it to reflect. Some don't require you to press the enter button before loading your credits.

The value of the token you just entered will be loaded and you will see it displayed on your PHCN meter in units of kWh. It is that easy.

One of the new things which have been recently introduced into Nigeria's power industry is the Prepaid electricity meter and it is gradually being distributed by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria(PHCN).

The Prepaid electricity meter is an electricity meter that allows electricity consumers to have access to power as long as they have paid for it in advance. In essence, they need to have a credit balance in their account before the meter will give them access to electricity. Prepaid meters are designed in such a way that they shut off or trip off once the credit loaded on them have been exhausted, a bit like how the Prepaid GSM service operates.

In the past, many electricity consumers used to make payments in arrears after they've used electricity for the month and if they don't do it on time, NEPA officials could disconnect them from power but nowadays, things have changed as payments are required in advance and this they collect through the use of prepaid meters.
