How does one cancel MTN auto renewal feature for mobile internet data plans?

Recently, MTN Nigeria has changed the way their data plan service normally works and I'm talking about their internet data service plans which mobile subscribers can get by subscribing to 131. With their new feature, customers now get to benefit more from MTN unlike the case in the past. Subscribers can get a data roll over, gift a data plan and by default be enabled for auto-renewal.

Well it is the last option which I'd rather not subscribe to and I've already being used to it on my Glo bolt. I love browsing on my mobile with MTN but I'd rather not go for the auto-renewal plan or at least be in control of choosing of whether to stay subscribed or not.

I had just subscribed to MTN's mobile internet data plan and I was glad that it comes with some bonus which also helped reduce my browsing costs while staying connected to the web on my mobile. However, it wasn't until my subscription expired did I begin to worry.

I know how to cancel my auto-renewal feature for other networks but for MTN, there is no sufficient information about it. I've checked their website but it is not available, I tried sending cancel and No to 131 but I have not gotten a precise feedback. In the past, one didn't need to cancel auto-renew with MTN once your data plan gets exhausted but with their new service, you just get renewed as long as you have credit on your phone.

I guess the only obvious way to avoid getting automatically renewed for MTN data plans is by avoiding having credit on your phone. I'm sure there is a code or text message one can send to 131 to stop the auto-renewal feature but for now, I've not yet seen it.

MTN doesn't offer a clear description to subscribers of how they can opt out f their mobile data plans now that auto-renewal feature has been enabled. If you ask me, I would say this is bad marketing.

Update: To stop the auto-renewal on MTN, send No to 131 in an sms.

I called MTN customer care for how to unsubscribe from MTN auto data deduction, but I was asked to send STOP to 131. I have sent it but not sure whether it has been effected. In fact I am scared of loading credit to my phone. Could u pls check if it has been UNSUBSCRIBED?.

Only you and MTN can check if it has been unsubscribed. You can check yourself by sending 2 to 131.

MTN is just one +++ up network! I hope n pray they lose customers n just run down n cease to exist! gosh! they are thieves. They have deducted about #600 in the name of auto renewal and God knws wah. it is so painful n so freaking unfair. Even their customer care barely helps.

please incorporate in all your messages regarding auto-renewal how a customer can unsubscribe if desirable. That is a hallmark of transparency I dare say. Short of this, I smell some unwholesome business strategy.

I did not know how i subscribed to eskimi. the fact is i don't even use it. 131 from mtn keeps bumbarding my phone with up to 35 messages each day and this is weakening my battery. #60 is deducted each time i load recharge card. i have called several customer care and all the instructions they tell me to do is not working

Since I migrate to mtn super saver, I no longer have airtime on my phone. Whenever I recharge they will take the whole money, I have done anything possible for me to cancel whatever may be the cause no alternative. Am tired of mtn

mtn keeps sending the message you have 0mb remaining of your 150mb data, sent stop, no and everything sendable to 131 but it hasn't helped. Received more than 100 messages already between yesterday and today. How do I stop this?
