It has been about 4 days now since I was last able to use Oxygen Broadband's Wifi internet service. It seems the service has gone AWOL for a while now and might take a few days or weeks before it becomes available again for people using it.

I have to admit, of all the Wifi internet services that I've used, that of Oxygen Broadband is the best plan so far since it's reasonably fast and also there are not data limits.

If you've been using internet services in Nigeria for a while, you'll know that internet plans are normally limited to the amount of data you may download or upload but with Oxygen's Wifi, there are no data limits - You can download as much as you want and watch a lot of YouTube videos.

Personally, there has been a lot of educative things I've learnt by simply watching tech and auto videos on YouTube. It has helped me do a couple of things that saved me money such as refilling my car a/c refrigerant - Yes! I learnt that on YouTube.

Well, it so happens that it's been about 4 days now or more since Oxygen's Wifi internet has been available to users like me especially in Surulere which hosts over 5000 registered users of the service already. The last time I checked, I was told by someone(Not Oxygen staff) that Oxygen broadband staff were off duty since they were upgrading their service. I thought it was going to be a 24 hrs thing but it's taking over many days now. Well, I also later checked their Facebook page and notice they made a statement there apologizing and hoping to return back online to service customers by the 5th of November 2014. Well, I do hope they do so urgently because there are a lot of things I would love to do which I can't do for now since my internet service comes with just a 4GB data limit.

As it is now, WiFi users within an Oxygen broadband hotspot might still notice the network and may be able to connect but will not be able to log into their accounts from their browser. I initially thought it was a problem with my phone or laptop but later noticed that it wasn't working for anybody. It can really be annoying not being able to log into Oxygen Wifi when you are at the mall or a Chicken republic outlet.

The first time I signed up for Oxygen broadband, it was at the Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Mall Surulere(AOS mall) and it was basically a free registration but I just had to pay for time used. Then, I didn't really like the fact that tickets or time purchased normally had an expiration date of at least 24 hrs. Lately, however, especially before they went offline, I noticed that they've upgraded all their plans with time credits no longer expiring until at least 30 days - That means that you can buy a 4 hr plan and still use it over a period of 30 days instead of the 48 hrs it usually lasts.

Nowadays, since they've also migrated to Chicken republic outlets and the E-center Yaba, I also patronize them at those places rather than the AOL mall where there are little or no seats.

There are not many internet service providers in Nigeria who offer an unlimited data plan and those few ones that do, it comes really expensive. Oxygen is making public Wifi based internet service really affordable for the masses and I have not really seen any other provider that comes close to that.

Oxygen's Wifi service allows internet users to connect with a variety of their devices such a mobile phones, tablets and laptops. Any device that comes with Wifi capability will be able to connect to the internet using the Oxygen's Wifi platform. I've successfully used my laptop, Android phone and Kindle tablet to browse the web at a really fast speed on their platform. One just needs to register once with their phone number and password for them to subsequently use the service anytime.

How long will it take for Oxygen's Wifi internet service to come back online? I hope it doesn't take more than a week from now.
